Quick answer

Which PowerShield UPS should I buy?

Choose the UPS by the connected equipment’s total wattage, the protection level required and the runtime you need. For most homes and small offices, a line-interactive SafeGuard or Defender is suitable. For sensitive or business-critical equipment, consider Commander pure sinewave or Centurion true online models.

Modem, router or NBN equipment

Start with a compact SafeGuard or Defender 650VA-class UPS.

Home PC and monitor

A Defender 1200VA model gives useful capacity for a typical workstation.

Gaming PC or larger workstation

Consider Defender 1600VA–2000VA, after checking the actual watt load.

Server, NAS or communications rack

Use a rackmount Defender, Commander RT or Centurion RT matched to the load.

UPS FAQs

Frequently asked questions about PowerShield UPS

What is the difference between SafeGuard, Defender, Commander and Centurion?
SafeGuard is an entry-level standby UPS. Defender is a line-interactive range for everyday home and office use. Commander is a more advanced pure sinewave option for professional equipment. Centurion is the true online double-conversion range for critical systems.
What size UPS do I need?
Add up the wattage of the devices you want to protect, then choose a UPS with enough capacity and some headroom. If you want longer runtime, move to a higher-capacity model.
Is a line-interactive UPS enough for most users?
Yes. For many homes and small offices, a line-interactive UPS such as the Defender range is enough. True online UPS is generally better for critical or highly sensitive equipment.
Do I need a rackmount UPS for my NAS or switch?
If your NAS, switch or other equipment is mounted in a cabinet or rack, a rackmount UPS is usually the cleanest and most practical option.
