How to size an Eaton UPS

Capacity and runtime are different. The watt rating tells you the maximum supported load; the battery runtime tells you how long that load can remain powered.

Step 1: Calculate the protected load

Add the actual or measured watts of every device that will be connected to battery-backed outlets.

Total device watts × 1.25 = recommended minimum UPS watt capacity

Step 2: Check runtime at that load

Use Eaton’s model-specific runtime information. Runtime falls as load rises and also varies with battery age, temperature and optional battery modules.
